Lingering under the noctilucent clouds
As we reach the longest day of the year - the summer solstice - daytime is still overpowering the night, and the total time of deep nautical twilight is about two hours tops. It means that from roughly 11:30 pm to 3:00 am, one has plenty of time to linger outside and observe the marvels of the high mid-latitudes, such as the noctilucent clouds. Deeper into the glowing clouds
As I wrote my article yesterday, I was thinking June 11th was going to be the last night for noctilucent clouds in at least a week, and I had very little hope for June 12th. I actually thought of going to bed early las night, because stratus clouds were starting to show up from the south, veiling everything up! I went to bed, but I couldn't sleep. Typical...

The clouds that shone in the night...
Have you ever heard of shining or glowing night clouds? I had never before coming to Denmark, but they exist! But here is the trick, not everywhere... This phenomenon, also known as noctilucent (from Latin, 'night shining') clouds, is usually observed at mid to high latitudes, between 50 and 65 degrees North and South from the equator. Nonetheless they can be seen at lower latitudes low on the horizon, but it is usually too dark. At higher latitudes, the summer sun never sets
